The Soldier still hadn't remembered his name. Most of the mutants in the base had taken to calling him Winter after he'd given his code name when Erik had captured him. He knew he was still being watched. That the telepaths closest to Erik were doing everything they could to make sure he was still stable and mostly sane.

Over the weeks since they're fight and being taken in by Erik he had started to see things the way the man saw them. It wasn't much different from HYDRA. Honestly, in a way he thought Erik's view was better. The special people of the world, the mutants, people like him even, who had powers of different kinds...Erik wanted a better world for them because they were the future.

Well, who was he to argue, right? He just leaned into his bed, closing his eyes and sighing before shifting a bit to lay down. His memories, some of them anyway, had been coming back. He remembered a scrawny guy, remembered being close to him. But that guy would be long gone by then, even if he could remember his name.

His brows furrowed at that as he thought of who could possibly be trying to find Steve besides the Brotherhood. Then again, he knew from snippets of his memories that HYDRA was trying to find him. Mostly because they wanted to do the same thing to him that they had to Bucky.

"If HYDRA finds him, I want to be part of the rescue." He said, voice holding no room for discussion. In this, he would go by himself if it came down to it.

"Of course." He agreed with a nod, "You'll be included on the retreival team regardless." That was a given, especially now that he was remembering things.

There was, of course, always the chance that they would be retreiving a body and not a person, but even in that instance, Bucky deserved to be there.

His brows both lifted then, regarding Bucky for a moment, head cocked just slightly, "Was there anything else?"

He nodded before sighing. "No thats everything. Thank you...again. You've been good to me, Erik. It means a lot." He said quietly, smiling warmly at him before turning and headinng towards the door.

"I am your soldier now. Not the same as with them, but still. I want to help you and help your cause."

"You are our brother." Erik agreed, "A soldier in defense of us all, the same as any other here."

The next day Erik had actually taken the time to arrange the training schedules to put both Bucky and himself into the mix, instead of just Bucky alone. Both on the same team, and on opposing teams for different exercises as he tried to do with everyone, to encourage them to learn how to use their abilities as a cohesive unit, and how to counteract each other or work against those limitations.

The first match was simple enough, one group had to rescue the 'hostage' from the other in an outdoor obstacle course, while the second group tried to prevent this from happening.

For the first match, Erik had placed himself and Bucky both on the rescue team, along with three others, including Alexis, otherwise known as Thorne -thanks to her florakinetic powers- who was playing their hostage.

"Teams, you have five minutes to confer and work out a strategy, starting now." He eyed the rest of his team, save Thorne who -as the hostage- would be privy to her captors' plan and not her own team's until they actually got to her. The other two looked to Erik to lead them, and Erik, in turn, looked to Bucky: "Do you have any ideas, Soldier?"

Bucky straightened up a bit when Erik called him Soldier, eyes focusing on the layout in front of them. He rolled his shoulder, the mechanics in the metal one whirring as he concentrated. Then he started explaining his plan, pointing to the different people guarding Thorne and how best to take each of them out using the powers the others had.

"Its best to let me actually get to her and free her. I can rip through the ropes with no problem and use myself as a shield to get her out of there."

Erik appreciated both the simplicity of the plan itself, and the ready way that Bucky laid it out, garnering nods of agreement from the other two because it really was a solid plan on its own, but still left room to change things on the fly if necessary.

The timer for their conference time buzzed and Erik stepped back just slightly, for the exercise, any commands for the team would have to be shouted, on a normal mission they would have comms, or a telepath to keep them in touch, but for something like this everyone being on the same page was better.

The opposing team was given a few minutes to get their hostage into position, and they'd picked a good place for her, high on a rocky outcropping where she was well and away from any plants she could use to free herself, with only one path up and a sheer drop down. They likely expected Magneto himself or Kite -the team's other flyer- to come for her.

He watched the others go off, studying the side where the drop down was, looking at the wall and determining if he could climb from there. He couldn't so he went to another side, metal arm latching onto the rock and pulling him up while the others were completely distracted.

He smirked, peeking over the edge of the rock, staring at everyone before launching himself up and over, moving around, fighting where he needed until he reached Thorne. "Ready to get out of here?" He asked her, tearing through the ropes like nothing.

With Kite, Magneto and Poppy, their fourth team member all on the offensive, the opposing team only left one guard on their hostage, and that was Rocky and he was guarding the path up, not paying attention to the drop behind, as he had eyes on both Kite and Magneto who were still the most likely choices for a rescue.

Thorne, for her part, just grinned as Bucky appeared over the ledge, flexing her fingers once her arms were free, "Back down the way you came, or going through Rocky?" She said with a tilt of her head towards the sentry on the path who was still too engrossed in watching the fight unfold to realize that his charge was getting away.

Bucky eyed the path down before looking over the ledge. The path would be the easiest way technically if he could take out the sentry, but going over the ledge offered the least actual resistance and would probably be faster.

"Over the ledge. We move fast enough and we'll already be on the ground before they even know you're gone." He said, holding his hand out to her. "Hold on tightly to me, okay?"

"This is probably a bad time to mention that I'm actually kind of terrified of heights, isn't it?" She asked, brow creasing. Most people would find that hilarious, that Thorne, as tall as she was at 6'4", would be afraid of heights, but she was.

Surprisingly enough, she trusted Bucky to get her down in one piece, however, taking the offered hand, "Let's do this. Faster we get it over with the sooner I can be on solid ground again."

"I won't let you fall." He said reassuringly, heading towards the cliff edge. "Put your arms around me and hold on tightly. Legs too if you think it will help. Don't look down either." He said as he waited for her before dropping over the edge of the ledge.

He held onto the rock for a moment, metal fingers digging in with ease and then he started heading downward towards the ground below them.

They were only halfway down when Rocky realized what was going on, where Thorne was florakinetic, Rocky was geokinetic, she could control plants and he could control dirt and rocks, though it would take him a minute to sort out how to get them back up without taking out the whole cliff face and potentially actually doing them some damage.

The recruits did use their powers on each other during training like this, but never at the risk of doing any harm they couldn't recover from, and with the Soldier and Thorne in the position they were in, he'd have to be careful if he wanted to retrieve them and not just knock them to the ground.

Thorne was already trying to connect with the sparse plant life on the ground, still just out of her reach, but she wanted to be ready as soon as it was within range.

Bucky looked down, metal fingers dug into the rock as he adjusted her in his hold. "I'm going to try sliding down some. Can you wrap your legs around me?" He looked down t the ground below them, judging the distance and then moving to grip into the dirt instead of the rock.

He used it to slide down, catching onto another rock about halfway down the cliff face. He had a feeling Thorne was probably freaking out at the sudden drop and he wrapped his flesh arm around her for a moment, just to give her a better sense of security.

"I'm alright." She assured, because despite the fact that she'd wrapped herself around him all the tighter, and had gone just a little pale at the sudden drop, she could now at least feel the plants below and knew that she could catch herself if this went south.

Of course, even that short reprieve was enough time for Rocky above to figure out what he wanted to do, having caught the loose dirt they left in their wake, holding it together like some kind of bear trap, or rabbit snare, he used it to catch at the Soldier's wrist, hand, and arm, keeping him caught fast to the rock he was using as a handhold.

Of course, being able to keep him there until one of the others could arrive to retrieve the pair and return the hostage -plus one extra- to custody was probably not something he could manage.

When he tried to let go of the rock again, planning on sliding down like the first time he noticed he was trapped and he growled before looking at her. "I'm gonna let you go. You think you can catch yourself? Are you close enough to the ground to get the plants to rescue you?"

He pressed a hand to the loose dirt wrapped around his metal hand, just for a moment to test it. It was wrapped fairly tightly, but he was certain if he could get the right leverage that he could punch through it or rip his hand free.

She hesitated just briefly before she nodded, once she had a better hold of the plants below, "Yeah, yeah, I'll be okay." Already groundcreeper was starting to scale the cliff face towards them, slowly, but gaining momentum as it got closer, and not only that, gaining size, as if just being close to her was some kind of mad-scientist super-fertilizer.

Before long she had a harness of the vines, not unlike a pilot's crash webbing, and she let go of Bucky, if cautiously, "You going to be okay? Don't want to just trade them one hostage for another."

"Don't worry about me. I've got it covered. Just get yourself down so I don't end up hurting you." He waited a moment before he started jerking back with his metal arm, doing his best to break away at the dirt holding him in place. He used his free hand to dig in as well, tossing dirt and debris behind him.

She just nodded once, "Got it." She could already tell that the battle at the far side of the cliff was winding down, someone had realized that their hostage had gotten away, and Rocky hadn't yet managed to call in backup, too focused on not letting the Soldier go.

Lex lowered herself to the ground, crouching so that she could dig both hands into the dirt at the base of the now arm-thick vines, she knew it would sap her energy, but she also didn't entirely trust that the Soldier would be alright with a fall from that height, so she worked the vines into a crash-net, something to catch him at a higher level and lower him to the ground when he got himself free.

Bucky yelled as he started to pull his arm harder, fist pounding into the dirt holding him, cracking it, sending little chunks of dirt and dust flying everywhere. The hold wasn't so strong he couldn't break it, but he hadn't thought about the distance below. Though he would have survived it, it certainly wouldn't have been pleasant.

Which was why he shouted when he finally felt the dirt give, having let go completely. When he started to fall he reached out, grabbing for more rock or dirt but he ended up landing in the net, looking around in shock.

Lex lowered him to the ground, setting him on his feet and letting the vines retract to their normal size, even that dwindling down to nothing before long, "Gotcha." She said, followed by: "C'mon, let's get out of here before he figures out how to get down or calls in reinforcements."

Though that wouldn't be long, and they still had to get back to the marked-out patch of ground that was their 'base', and no sooner had she started running than Rocky's cry of: "Hostage is free!" went up, shifting the battle, Magneto and the rest of the team immediately came to the defense, air support, as it were, keeping the other team off of them so they could actually get back to that home base.

He ran with Lex, protecting her as best as he could while the others protected them both. Once they reached their base he smiled, turning and looking back at the others. "That was fun." He said when he looked at her and then at Erik.

"When it comes to being on the other team I'm not really...I've kinda got a disadvantage. No powers. I just use my arm and weapons. But I don't actually want to hurt anyone."

The two teams were chatting amongst themselves once more, Rocky congratulating Lex on not panicking when Bucky took her over the cliff as he was one of the few who knew about her fear of heights, which was part of why he'd suggested having her up there in the first place.

Erik nodded at Bucky's concern, "Treat it like sparring, as I know you've sparred with many of us in the past, and trust that we'll be able to defend ourselves." Kite, who had also heard the statement, shrugged, "And if you're that concerned, you can always be the hostage."

"I've been in that situation before." He said to Kite, looking worried. "I don't do well being tied up so I would likely end up freeing myself. Or trying anyways." He said, shrugging a shoulder. "But either way I want to chance at everything. I want to give everyone a chance and...I need to start teaching all of you how HYDRA works as well."

Erik nodded at that statement, "We'll be working time for those lessons in along with the regular training sessions. And if you're still concerned about injuring someone, and concerned about playing at being the hostage, perhaps guarding the hostage would be the best position for you. It would keep you out of direct combat for the most part, and you wouldn't have to worry about being confined."

Bucky considered it for a moment before nodding. "It would likely be better that way. I still want to try, but if it becomes too much then we definitely need to move on to something else."
